Yes, a PCI card. I used to use Promise Ultra66 PCI, which I replaced with
Promise Ultra100 PCI - I have these problems with both. With 7.2, it
works well if my kernels have CONFIG_BLK_DEV_OFFBOARD *not* set, so my
drives are /dev/hd{e,f,g,h}. I have nothing connected to ide0 and ide1 on
the motherboard.

For the cooker install I don't know what the boot kernel is - I was using
mandrake-devel/cooker/images/hd.image from the mirror (last try DrakX
