Hi,

I tried to install LM 8.0 on Dell Inspiron 5000e.. Everything was fine untill
the installer reached "internet connection". There, it detected my NIC
twice.. i.e it showed me that i have two NICs instead of one and asked me to
configure each of them. I gave the same settings twice.

Now, the problem is that I cannot connect to the net. I found out that there
was no gateway set (by running netstat -rn). So I went into drak net..
clicked on expert mode and somewhere i found that i could set the gateway. I
did that. But again i couldn't connect... again I found that gateway was not
set.. so finally i reached to the conclusion that draknet is unable to set
the gateway (is it a bug??). Also, draknet too showed two network cards.. and
disabling one disabled the other too coz basically they are the same! So
there is simply no solution for this using the drake tools.

Finally I had to revert to linuxconf (let me tell u that it looks really cool
now!). There i could see the two ethernet cards and i found that the eth0
instance was disabled and the eth1 was enabled.. i then disabled eth1 and
enabled eth0.. then i went into the gateway setting and entered the gateway..
I then set the DNS (again, there was no way to set the DNS in draknet).

Finally I did 'service network restart' and it said bringing up eth0 (earlier
it used to say bringing up eth1). And now i can connect.

So, there seems to be a few issues here :
1. NIC getting detected twice (is it a PCMCIA problem with 2.4.x?.. if so,
can LM folks provide an upgrade please!!!).
2. In LM 7.x, we could set DNS and Gateway during installation and in
draknet.. its not there anymore.. and this is def. not desirable. Draknet
should be able to set both of these (Again, can mandrake folks provide
upgrade to draknet? this is _very_ imp).
3. Even if i set gateway in draknet, i cannot see it in 'netstat -rn'..
meaning there is somehting wrong with draknet (upgrade please!!)
4. Since the same NIC was detected twice, disabling one of them in draknet
disabled both of them.. whereas in linuxconf, I could disable just one of
them. Thus in draknet there is no way to get rid of one of the ethernet
devices (although there is an option to disable it!)

Now I just hope that next time i reboot, it dosn't again go back to starting
eth1 w/o a gateway!!!

please help and provide upgrades!

thanks a lot!
