Greetings,
Lacking a CD burner, I've downloaded the Mandrake 8.0 tree, i.e. /Mandrake
and its PMS, base, and mdkinst subdirectories.
I was able to do an ftp install on a new machine with no trouble. I used
network.img on a floppy with no difficulties. That was my success.
I am pleased with the new look of 8.0, so I decided to update my 7.2
system, which has been working very well.
I have tried both hd.img and network.img for doing the upgrade. Both have
failed. Here're the details:
Using hd.img, I get message: "An error occurred. Nothing found while
parsing /mnt/var/lib/urpmi/hdlist. Installation CD (disk1).cz".
Using network.img, I get "An error occurred. unable to open
/mnt/var/lib/rpm/Packages". This occurred after the install started
transferring files from the FTP server.
The machine is a Pentium III with 256 MB ram, Adaptec 2940uw SCSI
controller on the mobo, with a SCSI CD-ROM and a Fujitzu 18GB SCSI hard
drive, and a Netgear FA310 ethernet card (recognized as a Lite-ON/LNX100TX
(tulip)).
I'll be glad to supply more info if you'll tell me what you need.
David
