Hello,

About the libraw1394 package, I know that it is included in contribs,
but the user still have to create a dev node by hand (/dev/raw1394),
because the installation of the Mandrake package does not take care of
that (the install expects you to "make dev"). I do not know if we should
create those nodes in %post and %postun of libraw1394, or better add
those nodes in devfsd (may be a stupid remark, I'm not a low-level
specialist at all).

Well, anyway, if you look inside the Makefile, you will find that the
needed node for libraw1394 to work correctly is :
        /dev/raw1394 171, 0
owned by root:root and with permission 600.

Security --> permission 600 may be a problem for normal users wanting to
use their camcorders with a video software, but if you put a less
restrictive permission, you will open a security door in case there is a
sensitive FireWire device connected (like an harddisk). Though, maybe
644 would be fine : as far as I know, at the moment, there is no
software which allows to write to a camcorder, so at least data on
harddrives would be safe from writing.

PS : In case you do a modification to libraw1394 package, please get
libraw1394_5-0.9.0-2mdk from incoming, I did a small modification in
this one (that's why I cc: to Lenny).

PPS : /dev/video1394 172, 0 is needed too, but it is not directly
related to libraw1394 package.
