Hi

I recently started a thread here in Cooker as: 4 MB video RAM pathetic.

My reason for posting was confirmed by the answers I got, i.e. I had already
tried them and got no further. From that I wonder:

Given, that the aim of the Installer is to meat the requirements of the users
hardware, then you might formulate a policy or algoritm on how that is going
to be fullfilled.

The optimum is of course if the Installer can fully diagnose the hardware and
do everything automatically.

If that is not possible then the Unix and Linux way is to give text files
were the missing data can be read by Linux. For XFree86 4.1 this is met by
the XF86Setup - and this program is missing from my version of Cooker.

I can of couse install it, but my original thread was started to get an
explicit answer if it is a policy for Cooker to only rely on XFdrake, in this
matter.

I have the same problem with Mdk 8.0 and asked similar questions prior to its
debut.

HardDrake finds my card alright, it is a Creative 3D Blaster RivaTNT2 Vanta
PCI, and signals a TNT2.

Personally I think that a simple dialog on how much memory the user has is
the answer.

guran
