Which Thinkpad? With my T20, I have to disable switching to a text console
using CHANGEVT="0" in /etc/sysconfig/apmd (Note: the comment above CHANGEVT
is WRONG, 0 disables it at the moment).
I also noticed a longer delay if I have some nfs mounts up - but I didn't
investigate in this.
You might want to play around with your /etc/sysconfig/apmd. If you have a
T20 (or similar), you might find some tips on my T20 page :-)
