in the past I have been able to put an entry in my inittab (redhat 6.2) S2:2345:respawn:/sbin/mgetty -D -x 2 /dev/ttyS2
and it would answer calls on my modem (com3) with the latest cooker, putting this command in inittab does not work, but running /sbin/mgetty -D -x 2 /dev/ttyS2 manually DOES work, any thoughts on why this i might not be working?
