Looks like that is the only option, although, considering the quality
of the CUPS docs and the web-admin pages, I'd hesitate to use the word
"experts" in the same sentence.

Which, interesting enough, gives a printer name of [EMAIL PROTECTED]
which is way too much to type in every time I want to select a
printer.
When I try to modify that printer, their most excellent web-admin
system tells me this name contains invalid characters and refuses to
allow me to correct it.
Since this worked fine before the upgrade to 8.1, I'd thought it might
be a Mandrake problem, but I'll poke around in cups org when I get
a chance and see if it has any clues. In the meantime, I'll just ask
the printer's owner to reboot back to Windows when anyone needs to
print (grrrr).
