IMHO the WINE developers should carefully avoid using the Windows libraries where a clone exists, instead of being lazy and using the DLL. That way the clones would quickly become more useful, and WINE would go better out of the box. A useful compromise would be to document which DLLs were in use during a successful test run of an app, that way at least you'd know what you had to do to make it go.
