Hmm.. I thought I was the only one getting APIC errors ;-). It's good to
know that I'm not alone :), though hopefully there's some way to fix it
unless if it's a normal sporadic condition that's handled properly..

Is there a way to tell the system logger to omit the APIC errors?
Recompiling the latest kernel just to remove the APIC error message is
inconvenient :-(. If so, would it be possible to put such a fix into a
package in Cooker, like remove_annoying_apic_error_messages-1.0mdk.noarch.rpm
;-)?

It froze again this morning, and I spent three hours troubleshooting various
things before my system would boot again. I didn't see any residue around
the capacitors, so hopefully those are still working.. I should slap myself
silly because I noticed that the fan intake on the back of the system was
completely clogged with a layer of dust (my power supply draws in air to blow
onto the two CPUs and their fans). The area around the CPUs was _very_ hot
when I opened the case! The hours that I spent were related to cleaning and
re-seating the CPUs, and it wouldn't boot until I re-seated the SIMMs (system
showing its age..). Good thing the cats woke me up early this morning..

I tend to blame software without looking much at hardware, but I think my
recent rash of crashes were caused by overheating :-(. Hopefully no
permanent damage was done..

I hope I haven't wasted anyone's time, especially since it's a little
off-topic, thought the electrolytic capacitor issues were completely new to
me :-). (I didn't know that they had a limited lifetime..)

I'm still going to see if I can put a debugger in the kernel somehow..
Hopefully it might be possible to reduce or eliminate APIC errors if it's
feasible..
