I also have an ASUS P5A-B mb with K62-500 at home, and experienced the exact same thing, mouse works fine during install, but afterwards, will not work at all. I had to drop down to the 2.2.19 kernel to get it going. Latest cooker kernels have not worked either, neither has latest kernel (at the time 2.4.13-ac7) from source. I posted this to the kernel mailing list, got no answers. oh, serial mouse would not work either on my system, YMMV
