Sorry, got stuck hacking a messy Windows problem for a client for the last 12 hours and my vocabulary got stuck in Window mode.. Happens. Says v4l devices are 600 - but root isn't the only one who uses them. If I try using w3cam, for example, I get a message can't open /dev/video0 because of permissions. Look at /dev/video0, it's a symlink, but ls -l says that it has permissions of 666. If I follow the symlink to the device itself, it's permission is 600. If I change it to 666 or 777 then things work OK. On a system with low security settings, shouldn't these devices be available without having to change things? V.
