If I intall my Windows TT fonts and I have AA turned on, then helvetica and
several other fonts all display as what I think is italic helvetica.

Lots of stuff wants helvetica, and not having it is annoying.

I already deleted all of the fonts that were displaying in this incorrect
font. Such fonts as Beast Wars and Adventure. Plus everything from my
Windows font directory as well (some of the MS fonts, a few here, a few
there)...

I figured maybe that would do it, but it wasn't enough. Something somewhere
is screwing up when AA is turned on.

I think what's happening is that somehow the last resort emergency font is
getting screwed up. It's supposed to be plain, non-italic helvetica.
Someone showed me the code not too long ago where if all else fails, that's
what it goes for. I don't remember where that code was right off, and I've
since lost the message, unfortunately.

So how can I force these last ditch emergency calls to use helvetica proper
instead of the italic version? I really think this is something that should
be addressed for 8.2 and beyond, but I'd love to fix it right here and now.
Seems likely to be a KDE issue at least partially, but it also seems
something I could configure away if I can manually untangle the knot that's
going on with my fonts.
