I don't have an explanation, but after this letter I got back and checked the 
following: When I boot with the bootdisk, my box has tremendous problems to 
shut down, this is now repeted three consequitive times:

The screen is filled with things like:
"....unmount2: illegal seek....
... floppy IO ....
..VFS: busy inodes on ..."

The only thing I can see in syslog is:
Dec 22 18:49:11 One09 nfslock: rpc.statd shutdown failed

When I log in, probably during the phase of checking my passwd, the floppy 
led comes on.
