I have the same exact problem, although I don't have a Crystal 4232. Chmouel, maybe this means that the new i810 driver works after all, but something else is wrong. It's probably not a /dev/sound/dsp permission problem though, as I get the same message when logging in as root. Don't you get the same error on any of your test setups at Mandrakesoft?
