I'm using Acronis OS Selector, which recognises:
hde as Disk 1
hdf as Disk 2
hdg as Disk 3
hdh as Disk 4
sda as Disk 5
... in the same way Partition Magic used to.

With "disk=/dev/hde bios=0x80" I just see "LI" on boot.
With "disk=/dev/hde bios=0x80" commented out I get a screenful of "40"s
