I have unfortunately discovered more problems with APIC on my Dell Inspiron 8000. Even though I have append = " devfs=mount quiet noapic", It does not prevent any of the APIC problems. The most recent issues to add to the horrors:
If the power cable for any reason becomes dislodged while using the laptop, it hard freezes If you are running on battery and get the notion to plug this laptop into ac, it hard freezes This happens at any stage of the boot/running process of the laptop. Add this to the fact that accessing any item with the function key (Fn) will create a hard freeze and we have one nightmare kernel. These problems do not occur with the pre-APIC kernels (specifically, 2.4.16-11).
