I downloaded Mandrake 8.2beta2 on yesterday(20.02.02) and I think I found a real serious bug.
Problem:
The kernel 2.4.17-15mdkBOOT stops working (without panicing) when trying to
check the partitions. Here is all I could see on the screen after booting
stopped (nothing happend for 5 minutes):

That's where it stops - so there is NO kernel panic..simply no
action/reaction (just a blinking cursor....so the kernel is not dead)
1) As you see - the kernel may get in trouble with the 76GB HD which the BIOS
couldn't autodetect. 2) But there is no problem using this hardware with
a) Mandrake 8.1 kernel 2.4.8
b) Debian-Woody kernel 2.2.20-idepci
c) Debian-Woody selfmade kernel 2.4.17 (yes it is the same as used
by Mandrake 8.2(exept for their patches) 3) It is strange, that one
messageline comes a secound time (where it shouldn't): "ide: Assuming 33MHz
system busspeed for PIO modes, override with idebus=xx"
Attached are:
1) dmsg's of the Systems 2)ac
2) first 512byte of hda/hdb
3) partitionstabel (fdisk)
I am not a kernel-hacker....but this _is_ a serious problem of the kernel
2.4.17-15mdkBOOT. It must be a problem with the patches which were put into
2.4.17.
I really hope that it will get fixed before beta3. Don't let this get part of
the final! If there are any questions about my (hardware)configuration just
contact me and ask. If I can help by doing some tests just contact me (It
shouldn't be a problem).
I hope for a real good Mandrake 8.2
Bye
Jens Henrik
