This problem happend with beta2 already ...and is still there. I can not use DMA with the Mandrake-modified-kernels (beta2+beta3+beta4) but there are no problems with the original 2.4.17. I have to start Mandrake with ide=nodma to get it going and I can not use hdparm to activate DMA. It must be one of the patches which breaks DMA for me.
