[Cooker] kernel compilation question

Question for kernel gurus:
for compiling additional kernel modules, such as alsa for instance, i usually 
build a new kernel, reboot for switching to this last one, then build alsa, 
as it links against current kernel headers i guess.
Is there however a way to build alsa drivers corresponding to the new kernel 
before rebooting ?
