I'm not english pro, but isn't there a type there ?

Some additional things that get to my mind:
- running a program from console is often helpful to understand what's wrong, 
as error output is accessible
- error output from a programm started directly by the window manager (from a 
menu) is often found in .xsession-error
- strace is also very helpful to track internal behaviour of a programm. Last 
lines often give advices on error cause.
- when reporting problem related to window manager, always indicate your 
runlevel
