I have found one major difference already... 
When in ide-scsi mode I can swap out the floppy and
cdrw bays while the system is running! They need to be
unmounted of course and one has to boot with the cdrw
drive in the bay (for it to get recognized).

However, when running in ide-cd mode and I swap back
from floppy to cdrw, the system hard freezes! Not even
alt + sysreq can help.
