Yes, I have observed this with all versions of OpenOffice that I have tried. I think one of the things SUN do with StarOffice is give it some decent TrueType fonts (compare under <*Office>/share/fonts/truetype/). Unfortunately, due to copyright on fonts etc, good fonts costs money which is probably one of the reasons SUN charge for StarOffice.
