They had it working out of the box in 8.1, but in 8.2 they modified the files: /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/en_US /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/us
and broke it. It looks like they still meant for it to work, it just doesn't. I'll forward a copy of these two files from 8.1 to the list if you're interested, and hopefully the XFree86 package maintainer will fix it.
