If you say that by using the files from 8.1 my compose/multi_key will work under X, I would like to just get my hands on those files from 8.1 then. Maybe after I take a look of those files I can then understand what's going on. Unless somebody can explain where Xmodmap is taking it's configurations. what are the /usr/share/xmodmap files for? there is a /etc/X11/Xmodmap file also... I'm using Debian on a different computer and /etc/X11/Xmodmap sets globally (for all users) my keys. if you could just post those files I will greatly appreciated.
