[Cooker] slightly OT - setting parameters on a USB <--> Serial adapter?

Hi, 

        I know this is off-topic, but am trying to get my new LG VX1 phone to 
work with cooker.  I can get a low-speed connection with the serial port 
adapter to /dev/ttyS0, but in order to use the actual high speed connection
feature, I think it requires the use of the USB to serial adapter, and a data 
rate of 230Kbps.  help!
