That's because Redhat ships with a bytecode-interpreter-enabled freetype . The bytecode interpreter is patented by Apple, and thus this is actually illegal, unless Redhat has negotiated a blanket license for all people who could ever use redhat. Try using a bytecode-interpreter-enabled freetype2 RPM: Mandrake 8.2: http://plf.zarb.org/rpm/8.2/i586/freetype2-2.0.9-3plf.i586.rpm If you are running cooker, you must rebuild the current freetype2 srpm with '--with plf' as an argument to your rpm build command. You might also want to try an OpenOffice built against the system freetype2, instead of it's own internal freetype2 with the bytecode interpreter disabled. Mandrake 8.2: http://ranger.dnsalias.com/mandrake/mandrake8.2/OpenOffice.org-1.0-3mdk.i586.rpm You will probably need to reboot to see the difference. Evidence of possible patent violation (from Redhat 7.3): [bgmilne@bgmilne bgmilne]$ rpm -qlp /mnt/buchanhome/bgmilne/downloads/freetype-2.0.9-2.src.rpm freetype-2.0.8-compat.patch freetype-2.0.9.tar.bz2 freetype-pre1.4.tar.bz2 freetype.spec ft2demos-2.0.9.tar.bz2 ftdocs-2.0.9.tar.bz2 ttmkfdir-foundrynames.patch ttmkfdir-gcc31.patch ttmkfdir-iso10646.patch ttmkfdir-libtool.patch ttmkfdir2.tar.bz2 [bgmilne@bgmilne bgmilne]$ cat /home/bgmilne/rpm/SOURCES/freetype-2.0.8-compat.patch --- include/freetype/config/ftoption.h.compat Fri Feb 22 03:51:37 2002 +++ include/freetype/config/ftoption.h Fri Feb 22 03:52:47 2002 @@ -375,7 +375,7 @@ /* By undefining this, you will only compile the code necessary to load */ /* TrueType glyphs without hinting. */ /* */ -#undef TT_CONFIG_OPTION_BYTECODE_INTERPRETER +#define TT_CONFIG_OPTION_BYTECODE_INTERPRETER /*************************************************************************/ And, please don't set your reply address if it matches the address you send from (which serves no purpose), as that messes with the settings of the mailing list.
