Almost 3 quarters of the users did not want it in /usr/bin.
This was probably because they had KDE 2.2 installed with prefix of /usr, and don't want to break it. The question was not well posed, as it should have stated specifically that it only applies to 8.2 (which is what I assumed when I voted for /opt/kde3). | | Very understandable to me. Not that I want to see it neccesarily in /opt/kde3, /usr/kde3 | or /usr/kde/3 would be fine, but /usr/bin is just plain stupid. It gives you an enormous directory, | without any hope of finding your specific kde program, and it makes it hard to have a 2 or more | kde versions installed. So do you want: 1)A 5kB PATH variable? And, how does putting KDE in /usr make it easier to have two versions of KDE installed. No. KDE3 _IS_ _OPTIONAL_ for _Mandrake 8.2_. That is why cooker has it in /usr. | On a side note, (some) KDE developpers themselves seem to think /usr/kde is much better than /usr/.
