I think your second idea is a better option. 1.9.1 is definitely nice,
but it's clearly not yet finished - there's some obvious bugs and rough
edges (try using a /msg as a 'connect command' [command executed when
you connect to a server], or watch the text in channels move around when
you switch tabs, or try to apply some preferences changes without
restarting the program) and the author doesn't consider it a release
version (the 'latest' links on the page still point at 1.8.9). So if
it's to be included at all I think it should be parallel with 1.8.9.
