| You can use find /home -printf "%s %p\n" | sort -g -r to list files
| ordered by their size,

You would rather run this on a 100GB software RAID disk while users are
using it, than update the locate db at 4am every morning (when,
hopefully if amanda is finished with backups, the machine is idle)????

| you can limit maximum file size using* hard fsize 100000 in
/etc/security/limits.conf and you can also use
| quota (even without limit's it can tell you how much diskspace user uses)
| And you don't really need daily locate on the production serever.
| You can also create a filter for ftp that will not accept mp3 files (i
| dont know how doto this one but i know you can do it with pureftpd)

This assumes FTP or samba which can do this, but what about NFS?

| You can also create a crons cript that will simply delete thouse files ;-)

It's still quite obvious that locate is useful on production servers, it
depends what the server is doing though. File servers (which is one of
our most important uses of Mandrake) which share files out to many
desktop users using both windows (via samba) and linux (via NFS) do have
a use for this.

But that's ok, I can move locate from daily to weekly when we upgrade
our server (I will have to try and remember though).
