apcupsd is a monitoring program for APC http://www.apcc.com/ uninterrupted power supply (UPS) boxes, commonly used for PCs and servers. You can use it to get all sorts of info. from the UPS, and it can also cleanly and automatically shut your system down for you during a prolonged power outage. The CGIs that come with it (and install ready to use) give you a beautiful display and easy way to monitor it, and are extremely useful. If you want to see what they look like, I can let you look at it on my system, but let me know when, because I have a buggy mobo (Giga-byte GA-5AX) that locks up after approx. 24 hours of a serial port being in use (mobo has other bugs too). In fact, I'll just leave it running at http://luigiwalser.homeip.net/cgi-bin/multimon.cgi and turn it off later this evening.
