I like it.

I would like to add something.

Somehow I have messed up the graphical boot so that I have to
boot a failsafe and then "kde3 <enter>" in order for X to work.

If I let it run non-failsafe OR "startx <enter>" then I am hosed, there
is no opportunity to break out of a loop of flashing starting failing flashing
starting failing...

( I'm very good at generating situation like this since... oh... heck,
  kernel 1.2.18... )

Maybe there is a way to:

1. Modify the scripts that are recursively trying to start things so they
know they are in a loop and let you abort...

2. Add a simple cmdline to "turn off graphical boot" and revert to
    starting text-mode

Otherwise it is difficult to jump into and fix... which is perhaps an
understatement.

Maybe just a FAQ or man page on the issue of what mdk does with X, step by
step, so you know where to look to make a fix...
