I have had this issue for as long as I can remember using mandrake. It
doesn't occur with any other distributions (including windows).

Here goes: I have a sony vaio pcg/fxa33 laptop. When I go to restart it, it
shuts down and the restarts. But it just sits there with Sony boot logo and
the hard drive light on constantly. It will just sit like this forever.

I know that this has to be a software problem with mandrake because it doesn't
happen anywhere else. There is no special software that controls the reboot
process because I can do a clean install of winxp pro (instead of using the
restore disks) and everything works fine.

To restart, I have to manually hold down the power button for about 5 sec for
it to shutdown. Then, I have to press it again to boot up. This is just
really just an asthetic problem, but annoying none the less. The specs for
my system are here: http://www.litzinger.com/fxa32.html

I don't really know enough about linux to fix this myself I think.

Thanks to everyone for thier hard work and time,
Chris Lynch
