I just found out what the reboot problem with sony VAIO's is last night --
it has something to do with the "Local APIC" option under the processor
category of kernel configuration. Shutting off this feature fixes the
problem.
However, the VAIO seems to support it while it is turned on (it always
give some message about "Local APIC found" when booting with the option on).
I've never done any kernel programming, but my guess is that a function
needs to be made that shuts off the APIC before the system reboots
(restoring the initial values).
