Bottom line --- it's very difficult to be able to get to a windows computer on the same subnet, graphically, from KDE. This is one reason why many people never are able to use windows file sharing adequately.

I realize that this technique won't find anything out of the subnet, but port scanning can be avoided by using Advanced Settings -> Send NetBIOS broadcasts using nmblookup for searching. For a typical desktop user, who chose the standard security level, it makes sense to AT LEAST have this listed in the services, even if it's turned off. > > > Perhaps this could be addressed in the RPM. > > > -- > |----------------Registered Linux User #182071-----------------| > Buchan Milne Mechanical Engineer, Network Manager > Cellphone * Work +27 82 472 2231 * +27 21 8828820x121 > Stellenbosch Automotive Engineering http://www.cae.co.za > GPG Key http://ranger.dnsalias.com/bgmilne.asc > 1024D/60D204A7 2919 E232 5610 A038 87B1 72D6 AC92 BA50 60D2 04A7 > >
