I tryed to upgrade Mandrake-8.2 to 9.0beta3. I was unsuccessful.

Attempt 1:
Durring the setup-filesystem phase, I had the error; unable to mount /dev/hdd1
/mnt/windows. Which, I assume is do to the fact that hdd1 is a ntfs filesystem.
However, not being able to mount /dev/hdd1 is no big deal but the installation would
not let me go beyound setup-filesystem phase. It just looped that error.

Before I started round two, I physically removed hdd1.

Attempt 2:
I had problems again at phase setup-filesystem. I noticed what appeared to be an
infinite loop. But, after the second reboot I noticed that, thanks to console f2, it
wasnt a loop after all. The insallation was merely performing an fsck on /dev/hda.
Perhaps, there should be a messagebox of some sort declaring that the system is
performing the fsck?

Finally out of the setup-filesystem phase. I chugged along with the installation.
Everything ran extremly smooth up untill the boot-loader phase. Then another problem
aroused.

Now at the boot-loader phase, I get the message:
Installation of bootloader failed. The following error occured:
Fatal: First sector of /dev/hda1 dosent have a valid boot signature.

I tryed to use both MBR and first partition bootloader. Both had the same error
message.

I played around with the cd rescue for a little while after that. The rescue had the
error unable to open /root/message.

Then I loaded my system up with a boot-diskette and tryed lilo. Again, unable to open
/root/message. So I touched /root/message and tryed lilo once again and received the
message wrong map.

I attempted this on a basic Athlon desktop.

Any suggestions?
