IMHO, it's probably due to the way the driver for your soundcard
is handling buffer underflows. If you have the chance to have a
card both supported by OSS and Alsa, you may try to switch from
one to the other. If it fixes, you should tell us, along with
what's printed on your console by invoking "lspcidrake -v".
