Probably due to dm starting X first, and then init trying to start it at 
the end of rc5, and failing, but respawning. Try commenting out the "x" 
section of your inittab.

Btw, this doesn't help me too much (starting X as a service), since X 
gets killed at the end of rc5 (after wine starts), possibly when init 
creates VTs. This is with NVidia binary drivers though.
