Sounds logical. That section *seems* to be commented anyway, but I do have an inittab.rpmnew which doesn't have it in at all, so i've changed that to match my inittab (5 as default boot level, not 3) and copied it over inittab. We'll see if that helps. Thanks. A side-effect of dm starting X is that you don't get to see the status messages of things that run after dm, which is a bit annoying :\. I changed from OSS to ALSA and had to check /var/log/messages to make sure it had started correctly, since ALSA is started after dm... -- adamw
