Don't use X, but go to the console

login as root
echo 8 >/proc/sys/kernel/printk (as root!)
to be sure you get the messages type
tail -f /var/log/syslog &

Now load your sound modules with modprobe:
modprobe -v --debug <module-name>

oopses can be recognized quickly :)
