I'm surprised if no one else has reported this, but I have not seen it on any
of the "correct" places to report bugs:
On both beta4 and RC1, Konqueror is unable to use plugins. nspluginscan finds
everything correctly, but when trying to view flash-content with for example
the flash-plugin or pdfs with the Acrobat plugin, Konqueror/nspluginviewer
gives a grey square reporting:
'Unable to load Netscape plugin for <insert URL+filename here>'
The same plugins work well in Mozilla. I saw this reported on some webforum
or another by someone claiming it to be a permissions-problem, but not
explaining where it lay.
Second on the agenda is the way the SoundBlaster Live or Emu10k1 cards are
treated. I suggest moving back to the OSS drivers as default for these, and
to have the installer install emu10k1-tools (currently in contrib as
default). The reason is that as it stands, this card gives feeble sound by
default on most systems, which have "normal" multimedia-speakers without
subwoofers and the like. Mandrake will not compare favorably on sound with
Windows for new users, a sure thing to put them off Mandrake, and possibly
Linux. With emu10k1-tools (currently in contrib) in place however, you can
enable tone-controls by default, allowing people to get decent sound simply
by using the mixer apps. The same features are not implemented for these
cards in ALSA at all.
I seem to remember the default /etc/emu10k1.conf is geared towards systems
with two speakers and enables bass/treble control.
The lines harddrake/sounddrake should insert in /etc/modules.conf on install
in this case are:
alias sound-slot-0 emu10k1
post-install emu10k1 /usr/bin/emu10k1-ctl
The last line is geared to the name of the relevant file with the Mandrake
RPM from contrib, I think it is named differently if installed from source.
