And once upon a time you couldn't ship a functional Linux distribution without shiping proprietary software (note I said functional before all you guys start flaming me). There was a time when Netscape was the only decent browser we had. Times have changed and so has Mandrake's policy. Fact is if you want things to work out of the box on a reliable basis buy hardware that the manufacturer releases the specs or the source to the drivers. Better yet a vender that supports open source projects like XFree86.
