Guillaume,
Yes I have tried "ide=nodma" to no effect.
Note that Mandrake 8.2 installs perfectly on this machine: you have a bug
in 9.0!
As instructed by Todd, I did the install again and, when it failed, I
removed the offending xkb:
rm /mnt/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb
However, xkb turns out to be a directory with a load of funny symbolic
links to the entry in etc like 'xkb:3d7f9757', so I did:
rm -rf /mnt/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb*
rm -rf /mnt/etc/X11/xkb*
and did the rpm install manually:
cd /tmp/image/Mandrake/RPMS
rpm -ivvh --root /mnt XFree86-4.2.1 etc
This produced a large amount of stuff but finaly gave up with:
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb;3d7f9757
GZDIO: 2169 reads, 17768448 total bytes in 7.177 secs
error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb: cpio:
rename failed - Is a directory.
I re-did the above without the debug and noticed that after the
Preparing..., it gate the script error:
error: execution of %pre scriptlet from XFree864.2.1etc failed, exit
status 0
then it continued and finally gave the other error.
The problem appears to be the 'scriptlet'. What does it do, and how does
one extract it from the rpm to have a look?
