Would it be possible to disable the local APIC on processors in the default
kernel? I don't know if this has been a problem with anyone else, but
activating the local APIC causes my VAIO FXA47 to lock up upon rebooting.
The main problem with this is that when the system reboots after a fresh
install of Linux, the it locks and appears that something went wrong during
the install. If a Linux newbie didn't do a full shutdown after experiencing
this problem, he or she might think there is something wrong with the
Mandrake 9.0 distribution and (gasp) switch back to a windows system.
