The key difference being that within 6 months of x86-64's release, it
will have at least an order of magnitude more users than ppc, so
development should go on at a faster pace.  Also, there should be fewer
issues, as whatever doesn't build for x86-64 can simply be compiled for
IA-32 as a workaround.
