Thinking, from memory, your hardware is, in respects, similar to mine (Iwill XP333R, hpt372 onboard), I suggest that I must rebuild a kernel, changing only to the following switch, to be able to power down w/o a kernel panic: CONFIG_APM_REAL_MODE_POWER_OFF=y
