exportfs is used on an NFS *server*, not on a client.

An NFS client mounts file systems from other systems.
An NFS server lets other systems use some or all of its local file systems.

My system here is perfectly happy as an NFS client, and does not
have nfs-utils installed, just nfs-utils-clients.
