I've got just about the same problem. Here is more detailed
information. Unfortunately, I do not know of any logs or other files to
look at for more information. If someone knows what I should
investigate further, the information would be appreciated.
Times it Works Correctly
------------------------
* Any time I DON'T have the full desktop pager open, it works fine,
regardless of the 'restore session' option.
* When no session information was previously stored, and I logoff
without checking the 'restore session' checkbox, I logoff successfully
first try.
However, the rest of the time, my experiences are similar to Ben's:

ditto. and not the desktop pager applet embedded into kicker, but only
the full desktop pager you get from pressing the pull down arrow on the
kicker one.

I get this behavior about 50% of the time, when the 'restore session'
option is on (the rest I have to kill X as below). If I turn it off, I
can consistently logoff on the second try.

When this occurs, my kicker locks up, so I cannot even select the menus
on it any longer. I am still able to interact with applications.
After killing X, if I had selected 'Reboot' in the logoff optoins, the
system reboots. Otherwise, X tries to start up once, fails, tries
again, and succeeds (nvidia drivers on geforce 4 ti 4200). When I login
again, my ethernet interface is down. I have to manually restore it
with ifup.

So far, mine seem to always restore correctly. I am only using 4
desktops.

I don't recall this being a problem with MDK 9 RC2, but I have no way of
checking, since I use final now.
Can anyone else verify this? Can anyone verify it happening on a
non-MDK box??
