I have a Presario 700 with the AMD 1.4Ghz.

Mdk 8.2 worked great on it that way. The only problem
being I had to use The [fn] key and [nmlck] key to turn
off the numeric keypad functionality that somehow got
enabled every time X started up.

chkconfig numlock off
?

I recently got an ex-demo IBM 600x (PIII-500/128MB/12GB) with an on-board Lucent winmodem (works find with ltmodem drivers, RPMs for 9.0 on my site), 3COM PCMCIA NIC (works out the box), 1 USB which works fine, 1 serial, 24x CDROM. Sound also worked out-the-box. APM works, but lmsensors could kill the machine.

Only thing that I had problems setting up was the serial port, easiest way was to boot into windows and enable it there with a dos app, and then prevent pcmcia from grabbing irq3.

However, apparently the newer thinkpads don't all have working sound, and I think there might have been something about some of the winmodems.

Haven't gotten around to our Compaq 700EAs yet, but I will soon ;-).
