As a normal user, the first time it seems to take up to 10 seconds to login, and when checking syslog I also see it loads in a couple of modules too(sr_mod and floppy), I don't know if the modules has anything to do with the slowness, but when the machine has been idle for a time it takes a long time to login again, I suspect this might be because of automatical removal of unused modules(eg. sr_mod and floppy) and the modules will be loaded again when logging in. This does not happen when logging in as root. She just goes on whining about the Mandrake Control Center for the rest of the review. OK, so she ran into some rare bug that almost nobody else encountered. What does that prove? Also, it looks to me like she is testing it on a 5-year-old machine. I have an outdated 800Mhz P3, and the login process on the console takes about half a second, while she claims that it takes 3-4 seconds. She can be right for the login, because it takes about 5 seconds on my athlon1,2G to login in the text console. Just as if there was some timeout or something.
I don't think that such a review must be completely rejected, but it must be correctly analyzed to find the real problems.
Just came to think about it and do a minimal check upon it when I had some troubles earlier today after an update, anyways, if I'm right, maybe something could be done to clean up the profile.d scripts?
(Or am I talking total BS now?:o)
